New Plymouth Albion head coach James Shanahan has decided to have a club captain and a separate match day captain this season and have entrusted 29 year-old scrum half Ruairi Cushion, 29, wilth the former role.
Speaking about the appointment Shanahan said, "Ruairi is a natural leader and he knows Plymouth Albion through and through. He is well respected and, when he talks, the players listen.&rdquo
The match-day captain will be selected from game to game, but Shanahan admitted he had three candidates in mind.
"One of the senior players will have that job," he said. "In pre-season, Rhys Oakley, Sean-Michael Stephen and Eoghan Grace have all captained the side, and in all probability the match-day captain will one of these three.
"All three are natural leaders, but there are one or two others in the squad who are showing leadership qualities and could easily do the job, too.&rdquo
No.8 Oakley, who is also Albion's forward coach, will skipper the side when they play Gloucester this evening at Kingsholm.
