Midlands Under 16 selectors see double

13 December 2013

  • Slacks and Olowofelas in final trial
  • Third Slack triplet misses out

The Midlands Under 16 selectors can be forgiven if they think they are seeing double when they assess players at the division’s final trial at Leicester Grammar School on Sunday, December 15.

Among the 51 players who have been invited to the trial are a set of identical twins and also, two identical triplet brothers, all of whom play their county rugby for Notts, Lincs & Derbyshire.

Full back Callum and centre Connor Slack and are two-thirds of rugby-playing triplets. The third triplet, Jordan, also plays rugby as a full back, centre or prop for King’s School, the Newark club and NLD Under 16s.

The other twins are Jordan and Ryan Olowofela of Lincoln Minster School, who also used to play their club rugby alongside the Slack triplets at Newark club.

NLD officials avoided the problem of getting the Olowofelas and Slacks mixed up by allocating each of their players a specific numbered shirt at the start of the recent programme of county matches which they wore through the entire campaign.

All players who will take part in Sunday’s final trial were assessed by Midlands selectors in each of the county matches they played, which included two Super Sunday tournaments at Bromsgrove and Leicester GS.

The final trial will involve four workshops and clinics in the morning followed by a match that will be played in three 25-minute periods with a 2pm kick-off.
